From Wuerflach we entered the Johannesbachklamm. The 60 m deep and about 1000 m long gorge is located entirely in limestone. It’s always been a popular destination for hikers and for day trippers from Vienna. It was in 1902 when it was made accessible for the first time by the Vienna Nature Friends. On a hot day we were happy to put our feet into the ice-cold water of Johannesbach river.
More suitable for children, though, is another gorge in this area: the Myrafaelle with more waterfalls, a water playground at the beginning and another playground on top. Children also like the Hohe Wand Nature Park nearby, which offers a petting zoo, a game reserve, an adventure trail, a playing field, skywalks and a lookout tower.
