Wine Trail Neckenmarkt

Wine Trail
We had a lovely excursion to the wine trail at Neckenmarkt in Burgenland. We started at the Vinothek, where you get a map and could taste the international top red wines of this region, the “Blaufraenkische“. The trail leads through the wine-yards and from an observation tower you can see Hungary and even a piece of the former safety curtain. It crosses the amber trail, where Romans transported amber from the Baltic.

Draisinentour (c)

Bicycle Trolley Tour
At the wine taverns you can eat and drink at very moderate prices. Award-winning wineries in this region are Weingut Fuchs, Weingut Hundsdofer and Winzerkeller Neckenmarkt, just to name a few. At Neckenmarkt-Horitschon, central Burgenland may be explored by bicycle trolley, on a total of about 23 km in length. This Sonnenland Draisinentour is great fun for all the family! At Deutschkreutz (Zelem) you can visit the Carl Goldmark Museum by telephone arrangement (Tel.: 02613 / 20 200).

Lackenbach Palace

Lackenbach Palace
The most important event in this region is the flag waving on 20 June 2014, where the residents celebrate their victory over the Hungarians in 1620 at the Lackenbach Palace. There is an Esterhazy nature museum now, which shows the special exhibition “Fabulous Giant Bugs” until 1 July 2014. Children can see and hear stuffed animals out of the area or look through the microscopes. The other Esterhazy castles  Eisenstadt and Forchtenstein are approached by redbus.
