The most atmospheric Christmas market in the Alps will open on 21 November at Wolfgangsee and it’s worth going there for a whole weekend. The emblem of Advent at Lake Wolfgangsee, the swimming Advent lantern with the Betlehem flame of peace, has been completely renovated.

The lake plays a key role because Lake Wolfgangsee is the only place which offers a visit to three different Advent villages by boat. The “Advent view” of Lake Wolfgangsee can be enjoyed from 1,521 metres by taking the cable car in St. Gilgen. It’s only 60 km from Oberndorf, where the popular Christmas carol “Silent Night” was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber.

Also the  Christmas Village at Hof Palace opens on 22 November and for five weekends in a row it beckons with plenty of advent atmosphere. There is a special program for the youngest visitors: baking and craft workshops, magicians and storytellers, children’s tours of the Palace, pony riding, a live nativity scene and much more.
