The Donaufestival is one of the most progressive art festivals in Europe (pitchfork.com). In recent years the festival in Krems, in collaboration with the Kunsthalle Krems and others, has focused on fine arts and its performative aspects. On the music front it offers radically new sound experiences.

The Kunstmeile Krems with the flagship Kunsthalle Krems and Krems Cartoon Museum also shows class exhibitions in 2015. Krems is the gateway to the Wachau valley, declared part of the World Cultural Heritage for its beauty. The Danube flows through the valley, and on its sunny hillsides, the famous quality wines and apricots from the Wachau are cultivated.

The program of the Kunsthalle Krems  is devoted mainly to 19th century art, classical modernism and contemporary art and ranges from painting, graphic works and sculptures to photography, installations and New Media.The Art Gallery is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an Audience Festival on May 9 and 10.

The Karikaturmuseum Krems, b
uilt by Gustav Peichl – aka IRONIMUS- is the only one of its kind in Austria, true to the motto “laughter is healthy.” By addressing current trends and the presentation of contemporary illustrators and cartoonists the museum is a living place of cultural discourse, including the “living room” of the Austrian star cartoonist Manfred Deix.
