Open Air Opera Festivals

web-Lucio_Silla_(c) Matthias BausThe open air opera season in Austria starts when most of the opera houses and theaters in Vienna are on summer break. One of the most famous is the Salzburg Festival, which shows the operas “Il Trovatore”, “Fidelio” and more from 18 July to 30 August 2015. At the Bregenz Festival director Sobotka stages Puccini’s Turandot on the lake and “The Tales of Hoffmann” from 22 July to 23 Aug. 2015.

psfsmoerbisch(1)Closer to Vienna is Europe’s largest Operetta festival at Moerbisch. Director Dagmar Schellenberger stages “A Night in Venice” by Johann Strauss on Lake Neusiedl from 9 July until 22 August 2015. The Roman quarry at St. Margarethen is well-known as a unique open-air opera and concert place featuring Puccini’s “Tosca” from 8 July to 15 August 2015.

untitledAs for children, Klosterneuburg abbey will show Rigoletto (8+)  on 19 July 2015. Castle Forchtenstein stages “Marzipankoenigin” (2+) and a musical from 11 July – 2 August 2015. Don’t miss the theater play “Der Zauberer von Oz” (4+) at the Fairytale Castle Poysbrunn from 9 July to 30 August 2015. And in Moedling you can see the musical “Peter Pan” from 23 July to 9 August.
