There will be about 3000 bonfires after the Mass on Holy Saturday in Austria. In Vienna, it will take place on 26 March 2016 at 6 pm at “Am Himmel“ near the Sisi chapel. The flames will be fanned in four fire bowls while playing the “St. Matthew Passion” of J.S. Bach. The most important custom for children is the Easter Egg Hunt, the search for cooked, colored eggs and chocolate bunnies hidden by Easter bunny.
In Vienna, kids can find Easter eggs or treats on Easter Sunday (27 March) in Prater starting at 11 am and at Schoenbrunn zoo all day long. At Schoenbrunn palace the Imperial Easter Nest Hunt will take place already on Holy Saturday (26 March) between 10 am and 5 pm. On 27 + 28 March between 11 am and 4 pm after a guided tour, the children are invited to look for Easter eggs in the garden of Schloss Hof.
On 24, 25, 26 and 28 March at 4 pm all children can look for Easter nests at the Therme Wien. Watch chicks, sweet lambs or young rabbits at the Easter Market Hirschstetten on 26 – 28 March 2016.
The program for young visitors consists of grass worms crafting and an animal quiz rally.
