Alte Donau – Old Danube

For the Full Moon Cruise the boat rental companies are extending opening hours for visitors to explore the romanticism of the Old Danube in moonlight with a free bottle of Prosecco. All types of boats can be rented at reasonable flat fees for three hours (between 7 and 11 p.m.).

The Radio Wien Lichterfest  will come up with decorated boats, colorful lanterns, Venetian gondolas and a giant fireworks. A Radio Wien DJ will play the best hits and oldies. For the best view of the fireworks reserve a table at Zur Alten Kaisermuehle or Ufertaverne or rent a boat.

The Alte Donau has an excellent water quality. Recommended public baths at the Alte Donau are the Gaensehaeufel, a huge bath on an island with different swimming  pools for all ages and lots of sports activities and the Angelibad which suits especially smaller children. The entire out-of-town-side of the Alte Donau is a free swimming area for everybody, which can be best reached by U1 (Alte Donau), U6 (Neue Donau) or U2 (Donaustadtbruecke).

Sailing camps
Your kids like boating? What about a sailing camp at Alte Donau during summer holidays? Sailing School Hofbauer offers courses Monday – Friday from 9 am to 4 pm for kids between 7 and 14 years of age, even in French or English when needed.  Sailing & Surf School Irzl and Sailing School Danube offer sailing summer camps, too.
