The 8 km long rock formation of the Hohe Wand rises like an island 1,135 metres above sea level in the Viennese Alps in the southern part of Lower Austria. Reached via a panoramic mountain road, you will quickly find yourself in a mountain landscape of meadows and forests with many superb views to enjoy. Worthy of particular mention is the „Skywalk Hohe Wand“ viewing terrace.
Children can follow a nature trail, experience living like a marmot, and climb like a goat on their own play mountain. Fridolin the treasure hunter accompanies them on a treasure hunt in the enclosed area, where there is so much to see and explore. Perhaps they will even find the Natural Park’s hidden treasure … Children can feed animals at the wild animal preserve or petting zoo or walk with Llamas and alpacas.
There are many hiking possibilities on different circular walks, e.g. to the 18 m high observation tower, from where you can see down over the plain and far into the distance – on a fine day as far as Lake Neusiedl. At the Kohlroeserlhaus, a very good restaurant, is the entry to the rock path. The flying school “Fly Hohe Wand” offers launch points for paragliding and kite flying as well as a climbing area. You may also want to visit the alpine and heritage museum, the forest school or the lime-kiln and coal heap.
