Thaya Valley National Park Podyji
The Thaya is the border river between Austria and the Czech Republic and the center of the national park. The national park house is a small paradise for young explorers. Inside, there is a multimedia exhibit “NaturGeschichten – ThayaTales” to learn more about the secrets of nature and a photo exhibition about other Austrian and Czech national parks.
The exhibition is in German, English and Czech and invites you to look, touch and play. The children can use the microscope and the mascot Max Badger to solve tricky puzzles or watch the wildcats Frieda & Carlo. The adventure playground with the Burrow, Stork and wobble tree house is ideal for letting off steam. The cozy café and the hammocks invite for power refueling.
A special hiking map for children explains the various walks, e. g. the Wildcats Trail, the Knights Trail “Kajaweg” or the Nature Trail “Hennerweg”. The children have to find punch stations with exciting tasks and a punch for the hiking pass. We hiked on the Thaya Valley Trail to “Umlaufberg”, which offered a great view to the Czech Republic, but it was sometimes difficult to pass through fallen trees.
