NORTH OF VIENNA

Kreuzenstein austria-forum.orgFor a beautiful Sunday trip visit the rebuilt castle Burg Kreuzenstein at Leobendorf (near Korneuburg). The original castle was torched by the Swedes in 1645. The children enjoyed most the eagle air show. They offer special guided tours for kids, also in English from 1 April to 1 November.

Fossilienwelt StettenAlso located near Korneuburg is the Fossilienwelt  at Stetten, a 17 million years old oyster reef with an oyster cinema and pearl treasure digging not only for children. Other free top locations using the Niederoesterreich card in this area are: Nationalpark Thayatal, the Heldenberg at Kleinwetzdorf and the Jewel House at Maissau.

Winnetou2In  August the big outdoor stage at Gfoehl and the quarry at Winzendorf play “Winnetou” by Karl May. A fast-paced, humorous and advanced staging of the popular Winnetou classic for young and old. Played in Wild West costumes, with a total of 50 actors and 17 horses, sharp rides, a Western horse and a lot of funny gags. Dive into the world of the Wild West in an original Western town right on the festival site!

LoisiumTop destinations in Waldviertel (forest area) are: The Loisium, the Whisky World of Experience and in Geras, a monastery and a nature park with animals are waiting for you. At the Wine Experience World Loisium discover our up to 900 years old cellar labyrinth on your own by audio guide and find out how grapes become wine. There is a special kids-tour with Fridolin the cellar mouse.

SOUTH OF VIENNA

P1000658Try to discover Palace Laxenburg with its huge forest and very old trees, a former hunting ground of the emperor.  Large meadows invite for a picnic. Kids love this place due to a big playground and the boats, the little train and the pony wagon, which may be rented to get around the large park. Inside Castle Franzensburg is a restaurant on an island which can be reached with a ferry.

DCIM100MEDIAGo to Kirchberg am Wechsel and explore the cavity Hermannshoehle with lots of speleothems and bats. There is a very good restaurant, Ramswirt at Gloggnitz. Every weekend at 2.30 pm the owner takes the guests with his bull train to his farm and presents his star, an 3600 pound bull. On his observation tower you have a great view. The kids enjoy the playground and  the petting zoo.

Hohe Wand2There is a beautiful gorge suitable for children at Muggendorf: the Myrafaelle with waterfalls, a water playground at the beginning and another playground on top. Children also like the Hohe Wand Nature Park nearby, which offers a petting zoo, a game reserve, an adventure trail, a playing field,  skywalks and a lookout tower.  Hohe Wand_Folder English/Hungarian

EAST OF VIENNA

Schloss Hof Barock ErlebnisweltSchloss Hof is celebrating the 350th anniversary of the birth of its former owner Prince Eugene of Savoy! Beside the great exhibition “Triumph & Passion” a wide range of events point out the Prince’s jubilee. Other top destinations in this area are National Park Center at Orth, Amusement Park Gaenserndorf or Archaeological Park Carnuntum.

WEST OF VIENNA
