Vienna’s open air pools
This year, the open air pools and the Kombibaeder (indoor and outdoor pools) in Vienna start on 2 May 2016. Only Schoenbrunnerbad opened already on 23 April 2016. If you prefer very warm water though, then Dianabad offers 33°C on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Lainz Game Reserve
The Vienna foresters invite you to organic delicacies from the Vienna Woods and a vegetable and flower market. There will be an exciting experience of nature and crafts program as well as a wooden boar race for children. Don’t miss the setting-up of the maypole and the traditional ribbon dance.

Donaupark Miniature Railway
The Miniature Railway (Liliputbahn) opened already for the spring season and invites you for a ride through the Danube Park. It has a stop at 826 feet high Danube Tower, one of Vienna’s landmarks. Two express elevators take you within 35 seconds to the rotating restaurant for a marvellous view. Visit the big playgrounds, the free tennis courts, the mini-golf course or the Rosarium with around 35,000 roses. The Korea House of Culture by the Iris Lake has a tea house and library.

The new Niederoesterreich Card is valid from 1 April 2016 until 31 March 2017 and offers free admission to more than 300 destinations for only 59 Euro. Children aged 6 to 16 pay only 28 Euro. With this card you get also a 30% reduction on special concerts, 20% on Vienna Sightseeing Hop on Hop off busses, 15% on Rental Store Segway in Vienna and a next bike in Lower Austria free for a day.

There will be about 3000 bonfires after the Mass on Holy Saturday in Austria. In Vienna, it will take place on 26 March 2016 at 6 pm at “Am Himmel“ near the Sisi chapel. The flames will be fanned in four fire bowls while playing the “St. Matthew Passion” of J.S. Bach. The most important custom for children is the Easter Egg Hunt, the search for cooked, colored eggs and chocolate bunnies hidden by Easter bunny.

Most of the Easter Markets in Vienna will open from 11 to 28 March 2016. Inside Schoenbrunn Palace at the children’s museum, castle ghost Poldi will invite children for Easter games and Easter workshops. The Easter Experience Market offers several workshops besides great wine, food and music on 11 & 12 March in Palais Niederoesterreich.

This weekend is supposed to be a sunny one with spring temperatures, ideal for walking. You can just take a short walk in one of the several parks in Vienna or go on a longer hiking tour, e.g. on special city hiking paths in Vienna (Wiener Wanderwege) or Lower Austria (Bergfex). The MQ court next to Mariahilferstrasse is the kids court with the ZOOM Children’s Museum, the children’s information and the Dschungel theater.
